What is Microblading?

Microblading refers to a bespoke process that’s considered a type of eyebrow architecture by aestheticians. It involves the creation of the best shape that suits the person’s face using a very precise tool, which is effectively like a pen with a nib. The only difference is that the nib is an angled blade with tiny needles. These needles don’t penetrate the person’s skin. They just delicately scratch the surface to finely implant featherweight strokes on the skin’s epidermis layer with a medical-grade pigment to create fine and realistic-looking hair strokes.

How is Microblading Different from Having Your Eyebrows Tattooed?

Unlike tattooing, microblading doesn’t penetrate deeply into the skin’s layer. It remains on the surface. The hair strokes are far finer and more natural in microblading because no electrical gadget permeates the skin. A handheld tool is used instead to draw each delicate hair stroke manually. There’s also a slight scratching noise only as opposed to the buzzing sound of the tattoo gun. Although pigment is deposited on the skin to achieve more realistic-looking hair, microblading provides long-lasting but not permanent results. The colour usually starts wearing off after a few months when the body eventually metabolises the pigment to fade it away. The dye used in microblading doesn’t wash off, but its particles are less concentrated to achieve a softer and more realistic look.

Who’s A Suitable Candidate For Microblading?

The best thing about microblading is that an experienced ethician makes brows look full on any skin tone using a variety of shades. For those who’ve lost their brows due to health issues such as alopecia, they can still benefit from this revolutionary cosmetic treatment. Experts at Lipstick Empire LaserSpa are trained to create custom colours using various shades to match the client’s hair color so that the brows turn out to look real and multidimensional.

What Happens During The Appointment?

When you reach the Lipstick Empire LaserSpa for your appointment, an expert will shape your brow by threading excessive hair. They’ll then clean the area and prepare it for the treatment by applying a topical ointment. Aestheticians use this time to discuss colour swatches and the desired look with the client because the numbing process takes a while. A few minutes before the numbing cream gets to the working stage, the specialist will use their tools to measure the area around the eyebrows, taking into account the client’s facial features, symmetry, and shape.

The needling process then begins as the aesthetician gently implants the pigment into the skin through superficial featherweight strokes that seep into the skin and gradually settle in. If you feel any discomfort at this point, another layer of numbing cream can be applied to ensure a pleasant experience. Once the process is completed, a final pigment layer is applied that stays on for a few minutes before the area is cleaned. Et Voila, the result is amazing brows! Although you’ll need another top-up session to fill in any gaps where the pigment hasn’t healed or set properly. Darker pigments or further strokes can also be added during this time.

Second Session? What Happens in the Meantime?

Sometimes clients leave the studio feeling terrified that their eyebrows look too dark. It’s very important to be patient as your brows will change colour and fade in the next few days since they’re darker than the actual colour for the first ten days. Scabs can cause irritation, but it’s normal, as scabs eventually flake off during the healing process. Your eyebrows will reveal the actual coloring after a couple of weeks. You can eventually get them touched up again in a second session six weeks after the first appointment.

Don’t Forget These Microblading Dos and Don’ts

Before and after microblading results

While microblading is an incredible way of getting natural-looking, semi-permanent, fuller eyebrows, the treatment requires some stringent aftercare to ensure the best results.

Before the Appointment

Don’t wax, pick, tweeze, tint, or get electrolysis done at least a week before your appointment. You should also avoid direct sun exposure, retinol, chemical peels, and facials two weeks before the treatment. We suggest skipping exercise and other physical activities on the day. If you’ve got Botox recently, wait for at least three weeks before scheduling a microblading appointment and avoid Vitamin E and fish oil supplements as they’re natural blood thinners.

On the Day

Don’t drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks at least four hours before the treatment or alcoholic drinks at least 48 hours before the appointment. You should also avoid taking ibuprofen or aspirin at least 24 hours before your appointment.

After The Session (Days One to Ten)

Wash your eyebrows only with a gentle antibacterial soap every night and morning. Make sure the soap is rinsed away before you gently dry it with a patting tissue to avoid pigment removal. Don’t use any cleansers containing exfoliants or acids during this time. No peels, Botox, facials, or picking for at least four weeks. You should apply some rosehip or coconut oil to each brow twice a day and avoid direct sun, steamy showers, and swimming for a week. We suggest avoiding the use of skincare or makeup products until the brows heal completely.

Choose a spa based on positive reviews and not one that’s cheaper. Trusting an inexperienced person based on discount deals can cause you to end up with less than flaunt-able eyebrows. Yes, the treatment is semi-permanent, but why take the risk?
