If you have a skincare regime in place but just can’t seem to get that healthy glow, you’re going wrong somewhere. In this post, we’re going to run through the most common skincare mistakes we see here at Lipstick Empire, Edmonton, so that you can avoid them and look your very best from here onwards.
Not Cleansing Properly
It might take a bit of extra time in your skincare routine, but committing to using a gentle cleanser evening morning and night is the foundation of a good skin regimen. And don’t forget to take that make-up off at bedtime too! Use a specialised remover for the delicate eye area and a regular cleanser to remove the rest of your makeup.
Pro Tip: Your cleanser doesn’t have to be pricey, but make sure that it contains the right ingredients, such as antioxidants, witch hazel, and salicylic acid.
Getting Too Rough With That Exfoliator
Many of our clients are too rough when exfoliating and this can cause further damage rather than helping your skin! Exfoliation is important but it’s also important to do it right. Don’t forget to add regular facials into the mix too as these will help with exfoliation, and use a moisturiser to ensure your skin barrier is kept hydrated. Not sure what your “skin barrier is”? It’s made up of cells, lipids, and your skin’s natural moisture and it’s there to keep out bacteria whilst keeping hydration in.
Not Adapting To The Right Skincare Regimen For Your Age
Your skin changes with age and your skincare regime should also change to reflect that. Although we tend to get an easy ride in our 20s, with the exception of that dreaded post-teen acne, your 30s usually spell the introduction subtle signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of facial volume. By your 40s, your skin will be clearly indicative of your skincare and lifestyle and you may start to notice it become drier as your skin barrier is less efficient. Picking
You know you do it, we know you do it, so let’s just avoid talking about how icky it is and focus on the point here: you need to stop doing it. Every single time you pick/pull at your skin you’re damaging it and creating scars and wrinkles. Stop.
Not Getting Enough Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep is invaluable. This is the best way to make your skin look its best naturally. When you’re skipping valuable snoozing hours, your skin will become pale and dull and those dreaded under-eye circles won’t take long to appear.
